Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
Malda police have arrested a man in connection with the recovery of counterfeit currency notes worth five lakh rupees, intensifying concerns over fake currency circulation in the border district. The arrest was made following a coordinated operation by local police teams.
The accused has been identified as Mosharraf Hussain, who was arrested from the Charianantpur area under the Kaliachak police station limits. During the investigation, counterfeit notes in ₹500 denominations were recovered from Pardevnapur, a border village under the Vaishnavnagar police station. Malda district Superintendent of Police Abhijit Banerjee stated that preliminary findings indicate the fake currency was smuggled from Bangladesh. The seizure has once again highlighted the vulnerability of border areas to cross-border criminal activities.
Police said the arrested man will be taken into custody for detailed interrogation to identify others involved in the racket. Two additional names have already surfaced during the probe, and search operations are currently underway to trace and arrest them.
